Buss Port Logistics – with its German/Turkish joint venture BussErk – has signed another contract in southeastern Turkey. Up to 2.5 million metric tons cargo is scheduled to be handled at the Gübretas Terminal, owned by Turkey’s largest fertilizer company. The first vessel was discharged at the end of February. In addition, BussErk has extended its contract at the nearby LimakPort in Iskenderun.

Growth prospects for the trucking sector appear to remain on solid footing, according to the most recent edition of the Trucking Conditions Index (TCI) from freight transportation forecasting firm FTR.

The Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported this week that its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) dropped 1.0 percent from October to November.

UK logistics giant Wincanton has extended its relationship with home improvement chain Screwfix, part of Kingfisher plc, to design and manage a newly-built 562,000ft warehouse in support of the retailer’s expected growth through 2017 and beyond. Construction work on the site at Prologis Park, Fradley near Lichfield, which is the size of seven football pitches, commenced in December 2016. The new warehouse is expected to create 200 new jobs initially, with plans to increase to 700 over the next five years.
